The specifics weren't elaborated beyond foldable-specific markers, but the pattern is familiar: Apple has inadvertently telegraphed unannounced products through beta code before, from AirTags to early Vision Pro scaffolding. The iOS 27 cycle puts a fall 2026 release window in play.
Software support has to arrive before hardware does, and foldable-specific features appearing this early in the development cycle suggest the device is far enough along to need OS scaffolding now. For Samsung, Google, and Motorola, which have been selling foldables for years while Apple watched from the sidelines, this is a meaningful signal about when the category gets its wealthiest late entrant.
